Based in Kingston upon Thames, a Unix/Linux System Administrator is required to maintain the efficient, secure and reliable running of the company infrastructure for this well established and rapidly growing business. This role involves the installation, configuration and maintenance of UNIX/Linux operating systems to provide the 24x7 infrastructure to ensure the business and customers meet industry regulations.
This role will be in regular contact with other staff and external contacts in relation to project planning and system support.
Key responsibilities:
Work in a team and individually to implement, maintain, support and administer the effective and secure availability of internal and customer systems
Install, patch and maintain Solaris/RedHat/CentOS software installations
Troubleshooting and root cause analysis on Solaris/RedHat/CentOS systems
Active monitoring of Unix/Linux systems to ensure issues can be dealt with before they escalate
Capacity planning
Implement best practices for Unix/Linux systems.
Plan and carry out system migrations to new versions of OS and/or environments
Ensure that all processes and procedures are effectively documented and followed
Interface with Oracle, RedHat and other 3rd Party Software Providers for technical support
Skills and experience required:
Experience administrating Unix (Solaris 10/11) and Redhat/CentOS 6.x/7.x systems
Appropriate certification e.g. RedHat Certified Engineer or Oracle Certified Solaris Engineer (advantage)
A very good understanding of core Networking fundamentals:
TCP/IP
Routing
Firewalls
Proxy servers
Excellent Unix/Linux shell scripting knowledge
The salary on offer for this role is £60,000 plus bonus and benefits.
